World IP day is celebrated annually on April 26 to celebrate the role that Intellectual Property (IP) rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity.
This year’s World Intellectual Property Day campaign – Reach for Gold – takes a closer look inside the world of sports. It explores how innovation, creativity and the IP rights that encourage and protect them support the development of sport and its enjoyment around the world.
The protection of IP rights in sports is fundamental to the multi-billion dollar global sporting industry and helps to secure the economic value of sports.
S&A Law works with an international sporting brand assisting them to protect their brand and trademarks on their sporting goods. Without a strong IP strategy this client would not be able to capture the value of its investment in brand development. The sporting industry is, unquestionably, big business. For example, the largest sports brand in the world, Nike, has a brand value of US$30.120B. Our client’s sports gear and merchandise is worn by professional athletes all over the world. It has invested heavily in its brand and its logo appears whenever athletes wear its clothes or are seen using its merchandise on television broadcasts, newspapers, social media and websites. Protecting our client’s IP assets is essential to its continued commercial success. S&A Law is pleased to be a part of the journey!
